At Opulence Luxury & Vintage we kn w that is a real especial moment for our chinese clients, thats why wee want to wish you all on the 26th a Happy Chinese New Year ! and for those who are not chinese, we want to explain you a little bit more about this tradition.

For a few years now, Chinese New Year has been celebrated in France and throughout the world.

But where does Chinese New Year come from, what is its history and what are its traditions ?

The Chinese New Year is a festival that celebrates the first day of the year, based on the lunar calendar. In fact, the Chinese New Year eve, which is not on the same date every year, varies between January 21 and February 19,

Although the first day is the most important day of the festival, Chinese New Year is celebrated over 15 days. Each day represents a symbol and a tradition. On New Year's Eve, they eat fish to represent abundance, ravioli for longevity, and duck or chicken for luck. The Asian New Year corresponds, each year, to an Asian astrological sign. There are twelve of them : The rat, the buffalo, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, the pig.

After the year of the pig, this year it's time for the rat !

Red symbolizes happiness, success and good fortune. More globally, in addition to its popularity in China, this color symbolizes fire in the Chinese theory of the Five Elements. It also represents the national colour, red embodies beauty, vitality, luck, success and good fortune.

Omnipresent in the culture of the Chinese people, red is frequently found in celebrations and notable events of life, such as weddings.

Finally, during the Chinese New Year's Day, red envelopes filled with money are offered to each other, called hongbao ( 红包 )
